6 Steps to Launch Centers in Kindergarten

Small group instruction is where the magic happens in any classroom, but the thought of establishing small group centers that can keep and sustain the attention of 5 and 6 year olds can be daunting to say the least.  After more than a dozen years of trial and error with small groups, I can say I have a system that works well, and here are six steps you can take to have the same success:

December Math Centers

Have you started preparing for the busy month ahead?  We all know how crazy December can get.  It is one event after another, yet we have a curriculum that cannot be ignored.  I've created some fun and engaging Math Centers that address many kindergarten common core math standards.  The activities are for counting/cardinality, operations & algebraic thinking, and numbers & base 10.

Easter Freebie!

Are you looking for a fun and engaging way for your Kindergarten students to practice building CVC words?  Go grab this fun freebie from my TPT store!  I bought these baskets and the eggs at dollar tree and placed the small CVC pictures in the eggs.  You can either put the appropriate letters in the eggs and simply have students build the words, or provide a supply of letters in a center and have students find the letters and then build the word.  The recording sheet is also included.  This makes a great independent center!!!  Enjoy!

Valentine's Day Sight Word Game

Although there is snow on the ground here in New England, the days are beginning to lengthen and this winter has been much kinder to us than last year, so far anyway!

I love this time of year as a teacher.  Students are settled in, and routines are established.  I feel like I really know my students and what they need in order to learn.  I'm excited with the upcoming holidays and special days in February as they always making learning more fun and engaging.
